The 2020 Bible Society of Zambia membership renewal exercise was officially flagged off by the President of the republic of Zambia his excellence Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu on Thursday 20th February 2020 at state house in Lusaka. The president who is also the patron of the Bible Society of Zambia also renewed his membership during the event.
Speaking during the event, the president said the word of God was the anchor for every person. He called on Zambians not to fall prey to false prophets, whom he said perpetrated wrong teachings, but to remain vigilant in prayer by reading the Bible on their own in order to know the truth. The President observed that a number of Zambians had fallen prey at the hands of fake prophets and pastors because of lack of knowledge which resulted from not reading and studying the word of God. He quoted from the book of 1st John chapter 4, verse 1, which warns us that: ‘beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world’. The president also quoted from Acts chapter 17 v 11 on how the Bereans were considered of more noble character than those in Thesalonica because they took time to examine the scriptures to see if what Paul said was true. He encouraged Christians to emulate the bereans.
Speaking earlier, Bible Society of Zambia General Secretary Dr Abraham Chikasa said President Lungu had set a good example by being a member and called all Zambians to join as members of the Bible Society to help BSZ fulfil its vision of seeing a Zambia where all people had access to the Bible in a language and form relevant to them. Dr. Chikasa thanked the President for his support and commitment to the work of the Bible Society of Zambia.
And BSZ board President Mr.Webster Nonde said the day was very significant to the Zambian calendar in that it was the day on which the head of state renewed his membership and that the day set the tone for countrywide BSZ membership renewal. Mr. Nonde thanked the President for finding time off his busy schedule to reconnect with the noble work of the Bible Society of Zambia.
He further encouraged the gathering by quoting from Isaiah 54:17 and said that as Christians we were convinced that no weapon formed against Zambia shall prosper.
Also present at the event were board members, trustees, staff and past board presidents of the Bible Society of Zambia.
